Twelve years of hurry hurry get to school
Followed by who knows how many years of hurry hurry earn a living
Now is it ok to do nothing?
Can we ever really relax enough to be non productive for a whole day?
And if we do, can we do it without scolding our lazy self about it?
Working on this today, and God says, teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Hmmmmm
Yes it is good for us to take days and rest. I learned this during the time we were going through the great tragedy with our daughter, Tevia. We spent days sitting and praying and reading God’s word , talking and resting, because physically and emotionally we were in a place we didn’t feel like we could function to do any task. I felt guilty at first. I thought of all I could be doing . But through messages in service God spoke about resting and allowing Him to do the work. And in reading different devotionals the topic of resting kept coming up. I realized, in my own time of prayer, that God was saying, it’s OK to rest and focus on me. There’s nothing more important you can do.
I had a friend on Facebook that I connected to through a group that was trying to take care of situations in their bodies by natural means. She was a very spiritual person and would talk about getting up in the morning and feeling like God was saying spend today resting. She had a little girl and she would spend the day reclining or laying on her bed holding her little girl, talking to her or singing and praying with her. I don’t know what her husband did to provide for them, but sometimes he was there resting with them. She would talk about how refreshing it was and how that God would give her direction for the next day or days to come. I had never heard of anyone living like this and couldn’t imagine just spending a day doing absolutely nothing without being sick. But since then I have come to realize she had tapped into something that was not only healthy for her physically, but more important spiritually and emotionally.
So God put the brakes on us and we had no choice but to rest. In the midst of the tragic situation it was a wonderful time of closeness with God and family…. and I learned it’s not being lazy to sit and read, pray, meditate, dream, and rest even on a normal day without tragic circumstances . It’s like a day spa with God. It’s a refreshing sip.
One of several devotions that spoke on taking time to rest said, Thank me for and trust me in the conditions that are requiring you to be still or are encouraging you to be still. Some of the greatest works come from days spent in quiet retreat .Quietness and trust enhance your awareness of My Presence with you . Do not despise these simple ways of serving Me. Although you feel cut off from the active world, your quiet time brings your focus back from the cares of life to centered on me.
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy one of Israel , says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it”. Isaiah 30:15
“Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from His holy dwelling”. Zechariah 2:13
So pour a cup of coffee, get a glass of sweet ice tea with peppermint, or a nice tall glass of lemon water and prop your feet up, close your eyes and enjoy communion with God; as if you have no care in this world, no concern for laundry, or mopping a floor; as if you have been relieved of all responsibility and sent on a vacation. A spa day….
Thank you for the encouraging words!
